MIAMI – In response to Florida’s worsening housing affordability crisis, unduly burdening millions of struggling Floridians trying to buy a home or make rent, Florida Agriculture Commissioner and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Nikki Fried joined state legislative leaders in calling for a state of emergency:
“Millions of Floridians are making heartbreaking decisions like choosing whether to pay the gas bill or miss rent, paying for life saving medications or keeping a roof over their heads. It’s tragic, it’s wrong, but worse — it’s preventable.
“Instead of taking action and using his power as Governor to address this crisis, Ron DeSantis is focused on promoting his ill-fated presidential aspirations and passing laws that do nothing to address the economic challenges Floridians are facing.
“We need to address this crisis head on, and we need to do it now.”
